Playa Vista's Energy Star Homes
During the initial construction Playa Vista averaged a 90 percent recycling rate phase. Building materials either had recycled content or were made from certified sustainably grown lumber. On the eastern section Howard Hughes aircraft hangers were transformed into motion picture sound stages. Avatar was the latest film.
Each Playa Vista community building has two built-in bins (one for trash, one for recyclables) on each floor. This makes recycling convenient and easy for our residents. Now waste from Playa Vista residents is hauled to a materials recovery facility for processing and recycling. This system uses a high-speed, automated delivery system to sort mixed solid waste and separate recyclables. Playa Vistas new homes have been found to be 28 percent more efficient than required by California's 1998 Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. Playa Vista is a participant in the United States Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star program for decreasing pollution by building energy-efficient homes that meet strict guidelines.
Playa Vistas homes take advantage of natural light and air ventilation patterns. Double Thermal Pane windows save on central air and heat bills. Residents are fortunate that the latest energy and water efficient appliances have been installed in their homes.
Solar power helps to heat the outdoor swimming pools at The CenterPointe Club. Environmentally responsible plumbing have been installed in PV homes and the lush landscapes are irrigated with reclaimed water.
